What causes Global Warming?
1. Deforestation and industrial emissions result to an increase greenhouse gases (such as carbon-dioxide) around earth’s atmosphere.
2. These greenhouse gases traps and absorbs atmospheric heat and ultimately causes Global warming (an increase earth’s surface temperature).
Effects / Impact of Global Warming
If Global warming continues the world would be in danger. The major effects and impacts of Global Warming are:
1. Climate Change: Global warming is causing climate change. The world’s is becoming warmer and warmer. There is also prediction of regional climate changes along the ecosystem.
2. Sea Level Change: One major consequence of global warming arising out of greenhouse effect is the rise in sea level. Four major changes take place prior to this. They are: Thermal expansion, mountain glacier melting, Greenland ice sheet melting and Polar (Arctic and Antarctic) ice sheet melting. Thus, the coastal cities and ports may be submerged under sea-water. Many islands may vanish from the earth surface as well as from the world map.
3. Water Balance: Although changes in sea-level have received much publicity, problems of water availability are likely to be more serious and perhaps more expensive to solve. In future, warmer world will face water crisis in some parts while in other regions it will be wetter than it is now.
There is uncertainty regarding regional forecasts of future precipitation as warming of globe makes it difficult to predict. Also, pattern of agricultural changes, or effects on ecosystems in general are fairly unpredictable.
4. Human Health: The human health is put at risk because of Global warming. In recent years, there have been newer reports of spread of major tropical diseases with changing climate. As the earth becomes warmer, more and more people are likely to be affected by tropical diseases.
How to prevent Global Warming?
The problem of Global Warming can be controlled by minimizing the emission of greenhouse gases into the environment. The following preventive steps would help save the earth from the harmful effects of Global Warming.
On April 25, 1975 a Newsweek headline blamed a deadly outbreak of southern tornadoes on a disastrous average climate temperature decline that had been persisting for over thirty years. This report stated that the temperature drop increased pressure points in the upper atmosphere amidst the circumvential flow of the westerly winds that in turn affected temperate regions to increase numbers of deathly droughts, floods, freezes, and late-coming monsoons (Gwynne). Global cooling was a scare that resulted because of a theory, but now the concern is global warming. With many theories resulting in a a dead end when they were only hypotheses in the first place, intellectual citizens have begun to distrust the scientific community because of their tendency to teach theories as facts instead of educational hypotheses.
Currently, ordinary citizens hesitate to trust any ideas published in the name of science. Several skeptics were taught that Lucy, the famed halfway point between humans and monkeys, was a miraculous discovery (“Johanson”). When they learned that this was just a hoax, the trust level within that age group dropped significantly. Theories such as the earth being flat or the geocentric theories have been falsified even though they were, at one point, taught as the sole truth. Today, not only is global warming an intense activist and political debate, global warming is a source of questioning citizens and arguing scientists.
Citizens are both skeptical and supportive of global warming. The “global cooling” scare of the 1970s was somehow twisted into a warming issue concerning drastically increased water levels and deceased polar bears lining the arctic shores (Gwynne).

Global warming, by definition is the “ gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.”(Webster) In the last several decades, there have been numerous debates regarding global warming. As of now it has become one of the biggest problems facing the world today. Scientists do believe that our production of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide is having a warming effect on the atmosphere, but it also is creating a positive impact to on the planet. The controversial side is scientific consensus that it is the fault of mankind that our actions have led to the results of earthquakes, tidal waves, geographical plates moving, all because of global warming pollution. The other side that is also debated on is that global warming can bring new developments to our planet and to all that dwell within. In this paper I will examine the positive and negative side of global warming and suggest some ways nature and humans are solving the issue. Global warming is causing the largest impact to nature and humanity in the 21st century, but with green house gases on the rise, humanity, nature, and species will learn to evolve.
Many negative impacts have resulted from global warming, but many positive changes have been made by humanity. There have been many ideas on what humans can do to improve on the green house gases and CO2 emissions we create and where it can lead us to. For example, reducing CO2 emissions have been giving many thoughts of what could cause the upraising of green house gases. One of the main sources is automobile emissions. The makers of Shell Gasoline Corporation, a Fortu...
This essay offers a defense to the position that humans are responsible for global warming.
What is Carbon Dioxide?
Before attempting to answer any questions based on observations about carbon dioxide, taking a moment to identify the carbon dioxide helps to ensure a clear understanding of the element. According to Princeton University (n.d.), “carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide, is a heavy odorless colorless gas formed during respiration and by the decomposition of organic substances”. This naturally occurring element is exists in the Earth’s atmosphere where it circulates between water, plants, soil and animals.
Current Carbon Dioxide Levels
Knowledge of carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere helps scientists understand how the gas affects Earth, its atmosphere and any potential global warming. Carbon dioxide levels, measured in parts per million (ppm), defines a unit of measure “as a measure of small levels of pollutants in air, water, body fluids, etc. Parts per million is the mass ratio between the pollutant component and the solution” (TET, n.d.). Rising every year since 1958, the current atmospheric carbon dioxide level is 396.81 ppm according to co2now.org (2014). Scientists believe that they only have a short amount of time to get this and other greenhouse gases under control before the planet crosses the point of no return.
With a level of 396.81 ppm of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, one may wonder if this level is the highest level the Earth has seen in the last 450,000 years. According to the graph found at Planet Seed’s website (2014), this is the highest levels of carbon dioxide level recorded in that time. In fact, the graph clearly shows a spike in carbon dioxide levels in the last portion of the g...

Global warming affects the ocean water level because of the raising temperatures; it causes the icebergs to melt which adds more water in the ocean. This poses a threat to Hawaii and other islands because Hawaii is made up of islands, which are small and surrounded by water. This leaves us at risk for many things with the reef and the people.
Global warming has some very potential impact on Hawaii’s environment, health, economy and natural resources. With the environment if the sea level raises our reefs are at risk. With out our reefs our beaches have no protection against the pounding waves. Also it hurts the reef cause if the water rises that means the sun needs to get through more water, which means the reef wont get as much sunlight for them to survive. With economy global warming poses a big threat on it. With the reefs being exposed to less sunlight and letting the waves pound our beaches, it threatens our economy because our state makes its profit off of tourism. Which means if our beaches start to go away then the tourism will start to decrease and less money will be coming in to the state. Along with this the fish that live around the reef may start to die off cause the reef isn’t doing good so the life around will react the same way. Reef fish population will start to drop until they adapt and hopefully the reef can too.
With the rising sea level it has already submerged a northwest island in the Hawaii region. This island goes by the name of whale skate. This island has disappeared and the rest of the islands up in that region are at steak for being under water. The islands are housing wildlife that are found nowhere in the world except these islands and most of these animals are endangered.
